The Siena-AMC’s Summer of Service is a unique cornerstone of the program that not only champions but expands perspective on the awesomeness and importance of human connection. Widely anticipated by students, the opportunity represents the program’s focus on nurturing kindness, compassion, open-mindedness, and appreciation for diversity. For six to ten weeks, students live and serve in an underprivileged community. The first Summer of Service, completed during the summer between Junior and Senior year of undergrad, is international. The second, completed during first and second year of medical school, is domestic.
After much consideration, deliberation, and a little bit of soul-searching, the Siena College Class of 2017/AMC Class of 2021 has finally decided on the destinations for their first Summer of Service.
Students will be volunteering with Missionaries of Charity, an organization founded by Mother Theresa, at the original site in Kolkata, India. Another group of students will be volunteering with Volunteer for the Visayans in Tacloban City, Philippines.
